Students at Dublin Elementary School have spent the year doing something pretty remarkable, growing food that ended up on the lunch menu.
Through a partnership with Harford County Public Schools Food and Nutrition Services, Dublin Elementary students have been using the school's hydroponic tower to grow and harvest lettuce throughout the school year. The lettuce was donated directly to the school cafeteria, where it was incorporated into salads served during lunch. Dublin Elementary has enjoyed multiple harvests this year, creating a direct connection between classroom learning and the school meals program.
Food and Nutrition Services provided guidance on safely growing and harvesting lettuce, along with gloves and kitchen scissors for harvesting. The project reflects the department's ongoing commitment to supporting schools, enriching classroom instruction, and helping students build lifelong connections to healthy food and nutrition.
